Humanities Consortia within the NFDI
The impetus for the creation of a National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) and corresponding consortia was initiated in 2016 by the German Council for Information Structures (RfII) with the position paper "Leistung aus Vielfalt. Recommendations on structures, processes and funding for research data management in Germany". The University of Cologne is one of the leading locations for digital research in the humanities and is involved through researchers and institutions in all four humanities consortia that are now being funded within the NFDI.
The DCH was involved in the formation processes of all four humanities consortia at an early stage. It fulfils a moderating and integrative function between the participations at local level and is itself involved in the consortia conceptually and through its own offerings.
NFDI4Culture – Consortium for Research Data on Material and Immaterial Cultural Heritage
Funding since October 2020
The aim of NFDI4Culture is to establish a demand-oriented infrastructure for research data on tangible and intangible cultural heritage and to create a common structure at national level that strives for the sustainable preservation, standardisation and provision of research data on cultural heritage. The consortium addresses the needs of a wide range of disciplines from architecture, art and music to theatre, dance, film and media studies.
As one of nine supporting institutions, the University of Cologne is represented by Dr Lisa Dieckmann (prometheus image archive); the Cologne Center for eHumanities (CCeH), the DCH and the Theatre Studies Collection (TWS) are also involved in the consortium as participants:

Text+ Language and Text-based Research Data Infrastructure
Funding since October 2021
The aim of Text+ is to establish a demand-oriented infrastructure for research data from language and text-based sciences in the NFDI, which endeavours to sustainably secure and provide research data from cultural heritage. The consortium focuses on three data domains: language and text-based collections, lexical resources and editions. With this focus, the consortium addresses the needs of various humanities disciplines, including linguistics, literary studies, philosophy, classical philology, anthropology, non-European cultures and languages as well as language and text-based research in the social sciences, economics, political science and history.
At the University of Cologne, there will be a central research centre of the consortium, which will be established at the Cologne Center for eHumanities (CCeH) as part of the long-standing cooperation with the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, Humanities and the Arts (AWK). The Cologne centre will coordinate the "Editions" data column within the consortium. The AWK is represented in the consortium as one of five supporting institutions, while the University of Cologne is involved as a participant with the contribution of DCH and the Institute of Linguistics (IfL) to the data columns "Language and text-based collections" and "Lexical resources".
