SFB 1252: Project C04

Description

This collection contains the archival data of the project "Conceptual and referential activation in discourse(C04)", which is a part of the Collaborative Research Centre (CRC 1252): Prominence in Language. In phase I, the overall goal of the project was to develop a discourse model that could account for some key features in discourse processing, in particular for those features that were associated with concept activation and referent activation. In phase II, the project studies the prominence and accessibility of discourse entities in a discourse. Comparing referential chains (a blue car – it) and conceptual chains (a blue car – a red one), the project tests how the prominence of discourse entities is affected by subsequent linguistic material, with a specific focus on how syntactically subordinated vs coordinated clauses and discourse-structurally subordinated vs coordinated clauses affect the accessibility of referents and concepts.
