SFB 1252: Project C05
Description
This collection contains the archival data of the project "Discourse referents as perspectival centers (C05)", which is a part of the Collaborative Research Centre (CRC 1252): Prominence in Language. In phase I, the main goal of the project was to determine, via acceptability and eye-tracking studies, how the global and local prominence status of discourse referents interacted in making them available as perspectival centers with respect to the two types of perspective taking in narrative texts, Free Indirect Discourse and Viewpoint Shifting. In phase II, the project primarily investigates Free Indirect Discourse (FID) as a prominence-lending feature. Via experimental methods, project C05 pursues the question of how FID influences the prominence status of protagonists functioning as implicit thinkers, as well as the prominence status of propositions that are interpreted as thoughts of the respective protagonist.
