SFB 1252: Project A02

Description

This collection contains the archival data of the project "Individual behaviour in encoding and decoding prosodic prominence(A02)", which is a part of the Collaborative Research Centre (CRC 1252): Prominence in Language. In phase I, project A02 explored how the encoding and decoding of prosodic prominence was affected by individual-specific behaviour in linguistic and cognitive terms. They investigated specificity in perspective-taking and the ability to filter out irrelevant information in adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Additionally, the project studied the impact of individual specificity on prosodic typology research, using data from Egyptian Arabic, a language with an allegedly restricted intonational inventory. The variability in the encoding and decoding of prosodic prominence depends not only on linguistic factors (e.g. cue-trading) and individual factors (e.g. perspective-taking abilities), but also on the concrete situational context in which it is studied (e.g. task requirements). In phase II, the focus is on prominence usage in dyadic interactions to disentangle different sources of variability, and to investigate the cognitive processes and underlying neurobiological mechanisms employed.
