Data for the 3D visualization of Kreuter's maps
Description
The data archived here was created during Lukas Lammers' master's thesis entitled "From map to interactive model: Franz Kreuter's topographical collection as a virtual reality application" in 2023. The project was already prepared in 2022 and was completed in early 2024.
The aim was to create a 3D model from the so-called Kreuter'schen Karten, a collection in the Historical Archive with Rhenish Image Archive of the City of Cologne. A video, a desktop application and a virtual reality application were developed based on this model. These three media were compared with each other in user studies.
The archived data includes the high-resolution digital copies of the maps, which were produced in December 2022 and January 2023 after their restoration, the resulting 3D model in various formats, working photos, the two applications and the video, interim results of the master's thesis and the results of the user studies.
