Offers and competencies

Language Archive Cologne (LAC) | Request by e-mail: | Helpdesk:

The LAC is a repository open to researchers from all disciplines who work with (annotated) audiovisual (language) data and use a compatible metadata model. From 2013, the LAC was operated on the basis of the LAT software suite developed by the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics (MPI-PL) in Nijmegen; in 2019, the technical infrastructure was replaced by the developments from the BMBF joint project KA3. In addition to language recordings with a linguistic focus, songs from non-European cultures and recordings of oral literary traditions are currently being added to the repository.

easy LAC (eLAC) | Request by e-mail:

The eLAC offers simplified, mobile-optimized and multilingual access to the datasets in the LAC and was developed as a student project in collaboration with the Data Center for the Humanities (DCH) and the Regional Computing Center (RRZK). The eLAC uses the interfaces on which the LAC is based. The implementation is based on the Angular framework and its modular structure. This means that the individual media types can be displayed in a specific way using corresponding components.

Audio services | Request by e-mail:

The web-based audio analysis services developed in the BMBF joint project KA3 offer automatic transcription of German speech and optional chapter recognition based on this speech recognition.

AV metadata | Request by e-mail:

The DCH has a long experience in working with metadata for AV language data, metadata standards and the modeling of audiovisual and other humanities resources. Within the framework of CLARIN, DELAMAN and the BMBF joint project QUEST, we cooperate with other competence centers in the development and maintenance of industry and community standards. If you have any questions or problems when working with metadata, we are available to provide advice and support.

CLARIN Knowledge Center for Linguistic Diversity and Language Documentation (CKLD) | Helpdesk:

The CKLD is a distributed competence center operated with partners in Hamburg, London and Berlin. The competence center provides a central point of contact for researchers where member institutions pool their expertise, provide recommendations and information on current best practices, available resources, tools and tutorials related to the collection, processing and archiving of research data from language documentation, and offer training courses and workshops to teach basic and specialized skills.
