AV-Data Domain
The competence area audiovisual (AV) data is based on the cooperation with the Institute of Linguistics (IfL) at the University of Cologne and its director, Prof. Dr. Nikolaus P. Himmelmann. The focus is on the operation and expansion of a technical infrastructure for archiving and publishing AV language data as well as supporting researchers with advice, tools and standards.
Offers and competencies
AV data is an important data type for the DCH, which has proven expertise particularly in the area of AV language data and the associated metadata. The Language Archive Cologne(LAC) is available for AV data, which is made available there specifically for this area of research, including processing with linguistic annotations, and released for use online. In the BMBF joint project QUEST, the DCH is developing quality standards for AV language data, focusing in particular on metadata. AV data is one of the areas of expertise that the DCH contributes to the CLARIN Knowledge Center for Linguistic Diversity and Language Documentation(CKLD).
