In cooperation with the University and City Library (USB), the DCH offers a workshop on "Data Literacy for Humanities Scholars" for Master's students from the humanities. The aim of the workshop is to sensitize participants to theoretical and practical aspects of dealing with research data and to enable critical reflection on working with data.

The workshop teaches the basics for a critical evaluation of data and statements based on it. The theoretical foundations of data collection as well as the social and political dimension of data and data-based practices (data ethics, critical data studies) will also be examined.

Humanities data, data models and analysis methods are extremely diverse. The practical part of this workshop will focus on examples of tabular data and text files from social media. The basics of statistics and their implementation in the programming language R will be taught and practically applied to present and analyze this data.
