About Sebastian Majstorovic
As a digital historian, Sebastian Majstorovic works at the interface between the humanities and computer science. Born in Cologne, he set up his own business as a software developer at an early age and then studied history, film studies and Eastern European studies at Queen Mary University of London and University College London. He is currently completing his PhD at the European University Institute in Florence. In 2022, as part of his work as an IT Consultant for Digital Humanities at the Austrian Academy of Sciences, he founded the international volunteer initiative SUCHO (Saving Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Online), which supports the digitisation of Ukrainian cultural heritage. Since the beginning of this year, Majstorovic has been working as a freelance consultant for digital history and data science, including for the European Research Council project ‘CAPASIA’, for which he is developing the digital research infrastructure. His professional interests focus particularly on the areas of geovisualisation, applied artificial intelligence and the automated indexing of historical documents.
