Project-Based RDM
The handling of research data affects all phases of the research process and can be formally described using the research data lifecycle. This includes the initial development of research questions, the collection and acquisition of existing or new digital data, its analysis and processing, as well as the archiving and publication of research data and results.
Within these various phases of the research data lifecycle, different decisions must be made and measures taken that may well influence data management in other phases of the research process as well. To ensure adequate and comprehensive research data management, the DCH offers support throughout the entire research process via its accompanying RDM service. This service includes regular consultation sessions, needs-based project meetings, and the active implementation of RDM measures.
The key feature of the project-accompanying RDM service is that it enables data management that is closely aligned with the project and its specific needs, built on constant exchange and collaboration. Often, this project-accompanying RDM is co-funded by securing grants specifically for research data management. Early planning and preparation for this service—ideally during the proposal phase of a research project—are therefore advisable.
