HOW TO MANAGE - Research data management, but structured

Research in the humanities is increasingly based on digital data and sources. Accordingly, the management of this research data has become an elementary component of all research work. Research data management (RDM) begins with the development of the research question and encompasses all steps of the entire research process, from data collection and analysis to archiving, presentation and subsequent use.

Good research data management always accompanies research, is subject-specific and takes into account the different best practices and requirements of the individual subject traditions. FDM helps academics to make their research as smooth as possible while at the same time meeting the requirements and framework conditions set by funding institutions and infrastructures.

Support in the development and maintenance of individual data management plans, the provision of internal and external services, the selective and long-term development of data management strategies and the creation of a subject-specific point of contact for advice and support on research data management issues are central areas of responsibility of the Data Center for the Humanities (DCH) in this context.

The DCH advises and supports you in a subject-specific and goal-oriented manner on all aspects of RDM that become relevant in the course of your research project. With our many years of subject-specific experience and close networking with local, national and international partner institutions, we are at your disposal for, among other things

- all aspects of managing your data sets,

- storage and data security,

- the effective handling of data (formats) and

- questions about backups and data protection.

We support you in every phase of your project. However, the earlier you contact us, the better and more extensive the support we can provide.

For optimal and efficient advice and support towards structured research data management in your project, we are available to you in the current situation by e-mail or video conference. You can reach us easily and conveniently via info-dch(at)uni-koeln.de.
