RDM resources and services: VedaWeb
With the web-based and freely accessible platform VedaWeb, the Data Center for the Humanities (DCH) operates a web app for linguistic research into ancient Indian texts. The platform, developed with the project partner institutions, the Institute for Linguistics(IfL), the Institute for Digital Humanities(IDH) and the Cologne Center for eHumanities(CCeH) at the University of Cologne, was funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and is linked to the Cologne South Asian Languages and Texts(C-SALT) network portal.
VedaWeb provides digital ancient Indian texts in
- morphologically and metrically annotated form,
- with several translations and
- searchable according to lexicographical and corpus linguistic criteria.
available. As an example text, the Rigveda, the oldest part of the four Vedas of Hinduism, has been made available via the VedaWeb project. It is linked via the C-SALT APIs (Application Programming Interface) for Sanskrit dictionaries with the dictionaries available via the Cologne Digital Sanskrit Dictionaries.
The current source code of VedaWeb is open and freely accessible for reuse via a public GitHub repository.
