Publishing with Open Access: The Diamond Way
The first publication of scientific articles as Open Access (golden road) is the preferred publication method for making scientific findings as freely accessible as possible. In this particularly common method, the open access publication is published by a mostly commercial publisher. The publication costs incurred here and thus also the profit for the publisher are financed by the authors. However, the sometimes very high publication fees can be an almost insurmountable obstacle for the results of research activities with little or no funding or for researchers from countries in the Global South. - Diamant Open Access journals,
- Diamant Open Access edited volumes or as
- Diamant Open Access monographs
Diamond Open Access publication platforms are usually not run by the usual commercial publishers but by universities or non-profit, non-commercial organizations, associations or societies. Due to the non-commercial nature of the publication and the scientific-oriented sponsorship, Diamond Open Access journals and book series are often strongly anchored in the respective community. This proximity to the community and the lack of obstacles to publication and reception make Diamant Open Access publications highly visible internationally.
Publishing research data under Open Access conditions in line with the FAIR principles is also desirable. Many repositories, such as Zenodo, enable data publication in accordance with the Diamant Open Access principles.
