HOW TO PUBLISH - Digital publishing of research data
Publications are one of the main products of research processes in the humanities. The publication of research data as the results of scientific work and the basis for publications promotes the traceability, reproducibility and openness of science. In addition, published research data represents a further, citable publication and increases individual reach.
The preparation of an effective publication of research data concerns almost the entire research data life cycle. In addition to subject-specific standards, e.g. for documentation and metadata curation, it is also important to think about sustainable and independent data formats and community-specific aspects of data quality at an early stage. Legal aspects, any necessary access restrictions and terms of use also often play an important role in this context.
Finally, an adequate storage location must be identified on the basis of these conditions so that research data can be found by the community and is accessible without restriction.
The Data Center for the Humanities (DCH) supports researchers at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in the development and implementation of publication strategies for research data, the identification of suitable publication solutions and the actual publication of research data. The perspective of the Cologne Data Center is subject-specific in order to always identify an optimal, needs-oriented solution for you.
Specifically, the DCH will help you in an uncomplicated and professional manner with
- the development or review of publication strategies,
- the identification and mediation of demand-oriented publication solutions and
- the publication of research data to increase your own reach.
The DCH is available to you as a competent and well-connected partner institution at local, national and international level.
As with all aspects of research data management (RDM), we support you in every phase of your project. However, the earlier you contact us, the better and more extensive the support we can provide.
For optimal and efficient advice and support with aspects of the publication of your research data at the end of a project, we are available to you in the current situation by e-mail or video conference. You can reach us easily and conveniently via info-dch(at)uni-koeln.de.
